Sound of Plants

September 24, 2024 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
The Sound of Plants is an educational performance that harnesses the natural vibrations of plants with a piece of hardware to make live music.
Over the course of three days, the presenter will introduce the audience to an array of plants, the biological processes those plants use to survive, and their natural music. The class also involves a beginner’s guide to using the PlantChoir application.
Coming consecutively to all three programs is helpful, though not required. You are welcome to join us for only one session! This program is suitable for all ages. No registration is required.
The program will be held Monday, September 23 at 4:30; Tuesday, September 24 at 5:30; and Wednesday, September 25 at 4:30.
This workshop is led by Kentucky Teaching Artist Nile Jordan. Combining the principles of biology and electronic music production Nile composes songs to bridge the gap between the arts and sciences. They utilize programs such as PlantLife and Ableton in their curriculum. Due to their background in ecology, Nile incorporates the outdoors into many aspects of their curriculum. They aim to spread informed knowledge on the diverse flora and fauna of Kentucky.
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, supports Pike County Public Library District with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
