Pikeville’s Aviator: A Talk with Kimberly Sheeter

June 12 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Join us on June 12 at 2:00 on Zoom for a virtual author talk with Kimberly Sheeter as she talks more in depth about her novel, Air-Minded! Air-Minded is a braided novel of early flight: an aviation evangelist builds the system while an assassin exploits it. Their parallel lives trace aviation’s rise from spectacle to infrastructure—and the lives it connects, and ends.
May marked the 125th birthday of pioneering aviator John Paul Riddle. As one of Pikeville’s most remarkable native sons, he is best remembered for dipping beneath Middle Bridge in his biplane on the 4th of July in 1923. He deserves to be remembered for so much more! He went on to shape every aspect of aviation in America and train 26,000 Allied pilots during World War II, including RAF fighters based in Florida. His story is told in Kimberly Sheeter’s novel, Air-Minded.
