DESCRIPTION:January 13th – February 13th | $100 for semester\nMeets Mondays-Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 pm\nPerformance: February 13th\, 2025?\nTaught by Brian Bush and Daniela Velasquez \n\n\n\n\nThis class is dedicated to developing key ensemble skills for musical theatre performance. Musical theatre\, by nature\, combines three key elements: acting\, singing\, and dance. This class aims to explore all these aspects through the performance of an iconic musical theatre ensemble number. In this piece\, students will learn music\, choreography\, and dig into the storytelling that the song requires. This semester\, the class will also feature an audition focus. Students will be asked to prepare a 16-32 bar cut of a musical theatre song to be used for an audition. This piece will be worked on during class with the instructors. Ultimately\, these pieces will be shown to the community on a final “sharing” day. Join us for a fantastic dive into the world of group work in musical theatre!

DESCRIPTION:January 14-February 13\, 2025 | $100 for semester\nMeets Tuesdays & Thursdays\, 5:15pm – 6:15pm\nPerformance: February 13\, 2025\nTaught by John Code with Teaching Assistant Brian Bush \n\n\n\n\nIn this class\, we will explore the foundations of improv acting and comedy for new students as well as sharpen the skills of those with previous experience and combine them into a strong team of improv performers! Students of all levels are encouraged to join\, whether it is simply to try something new and fun or to improve on past improv experience. \nWe will be working on a wide arrange of improv games that will eventually be incorporated into a public class sharing on February 13th\, which family and friends of all participants are highly encouraged to attend!It is very important that students attend each class to get the fullest experience of the course and develop the most effective teamwork with their classmates.

This improv class offers a unique opportunity to combine creativity\, spontaneity\, and performance in a thrilling\, interactive environment. In this course\, you’ll train in Interactive and Immersive Improvisation. The culmination of your training will be an unforgettable Valentine’s Day Murder Mystery Dinner. The audience will be invited to become “detectives\,” uncovering clues\, questioning suspects\, and attempting to solve the crime—all while navigating the romance-filled\, suspenseful atmosphere of the dinner. \nBy the end of the class\, you’ll not only have an array of new improvisation techniques\, but you’ll also have the thrilling experience of performing in a fun\, high-energy murder mystery event at The Appalachian Center for the Arts. This will be a night of suspense\, laughter\, and unforgettable moments. \nWhether you’re a seasoned performer or new to improv\, this class is designed for all skill levels who are ready to embrace the thrill of interactive and immersive storytelling!

DESCRIPTION:tory Time is for children ages 5 and under and features books\, action/movement\, songs\, and a craft. Story Time is held Thursdays at 11:00 and 2:00 and Saturdays at 11:00. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nBesides being fun\, Story Time also helps develop early literacy and school readiness skills through reading\, singing\, listening\, playing\, and social interaction. This program lasts approximately 30 minutes\, and caregivers and children are encouraged to linger in the library afterwards to further socialize and choose books to take home.

SUMMARY:If This Were My Story (ages 18+)
DESCRIPTION:January 18th-February 8th | $100 for semester\nMeets Saturdays\, 12:00-4:00 pm\nPerformance: February 13th\, 2025\nTaught by Mark Hatfield \n\n\n\n\nYou have a story to tell! Learn the creative processes involved in devised theatre where the actors become playwrights and tell the stories most relevant to them. Collaborate with other theatre artists as you learn embodied poetics inspired by the pedagogy of the French theatre director Jacques Lecoq. Participants will use movement\, music\, materials\, masks\, and improvisation to develop a show based on the topic of their choosing. \nMark Hatfield is an Eastern Kentucky native who trained at the London International School of Performing Arts and School of Embodied Poetics\, and has completed an MFA in Actor Created Physical Theatre at Naropa University. He’s also completed graduate degrees in musical composition\, counseling\, and a clinical training program with the Jung Institute of Chicago. \nMark Hatfield has been a member of Artists Collaborative Theatre since 2021 and has played roles in The Little Miss Firecracker Contest\, Puffs\, Bright Star\, The Thin Place\, Misery\, 9 to 5\, Southern Fried Funeral\, Bloodsong\, Inherit the Wind\, Mamma Mia\, Southern Fried Nuptials\, Wait Until Dark\, and A Bluegrass Christmas Carol. \nAs part of the Octopus League theatre company in Boulder\, CO\, Mark has devised\, co-directed\, and performed in musicals\, plays\, story adaptations\, and clown shows. He’s also performed as a company member in Square Product Theatre productions of Boulder and as a community player with UPike’s theatre troupe. \nMark lives in Pikeville\, KY\, works as a mental health counselor in private practice\, is a doctoral student in clinical psychology\, and is a drama therapist in training. He has basically never stopped going to school and perhaps never will.
