SUMMARY:Dreams into Consciousness
DESCRIPTION:By journaling our own nightly dream experiences\, we re-enter the imaginal realm of the Otherworld. SUMMARY:Is Archaeology Really Like Indiana Jones?
DESCRIPTION:See an actual dig with an archeologist in this virtual program on March 14 at 4:30! Petra\, “The Rose-Red City Half as Old as Time\,” is nestled in a mountainous basin in a remote\, rugged corner of Jordan. Recently named one of the New Seven Wonders of the Ancient World\, Petra is famous for its rock-cut tombs and monuments\, including a Roman theater capable of seating as many as 8\,500 people. Petra served for a time as one of the major trading centers of the ancient world. It also served as a backdrop for scenes in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. After a series of earthquakes in about 400 AD\, Petra lay essentially abandoned; it was not rediscovered until 1812. Archaeological investigations at Petra continue to the present day. This presentation goes behind the scenes on an actual dig at the site\, where you will learn archaeology techniques\, and whether archaeology is really like it is in the movies.\nThis virtual program will be done through Zoom only. It will not be lived streamed on the Facebook page. Zoom info will be shared here on the morning of the program.

SUMMARY:The Myths & Realities of Appalachian Englishes
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever heard someone say that people from the Appalachian Mountains sound like Shakespeare? Or maybe you’ve been told that the language spoken there is frozen in time. These and other misconceptions about the linguistic varieties employed by Appalachians have hidden the vibrant and dynamic nature of their language and helped to perpetuate the idea that speakers of these dialects are old-fashioned and backwards. This presentation examines the myths and realities surrounding Appalachian Englishes by providing evidence that these varieties\, like all others\, are constantly changing.\nThis virtual program is done through Zoom on March 23 at 6:00 and will be live streamed to the library’s Facebook page.\nTo join the Zoom meeting:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/84547706135\nThis program was funded in part by the Kentucky Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

SUMMARY:The History of Hershey
DESCRIPTION:Today the name Hershey is synonymous with quality milk chocolate. But that wasn’t always the case. Milton S. Hershey worked hard and failed often before his chocolate company was finally successful. And when he did become a household name and had earned a vast fortune\, Milton and his wife Catherine decided to give it all away. Because of their generosity\, tens of thousands of orphans have been saved\, protected\, and educated.\nThis virtual presentation will be done through Zoom and live streamed to the library’s Facebook page on March 31 at 4:30.\nTo join the Zoom meeting\, click here:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/88619680627
