SUMMARY:The Magic Table: Story and Cooking Class
DESCRIPTION:Written by Sheila Ahmed of Harlan\, Kentucky\, “The Magic Table” is a story of a very diverse family\, who moved from a faraway land\, to settle in rural Appalachia. Despite their differences\, they opened their home\, heart and hearth\, to the people in their tiny mountain town. They embraced everyone in their own custom\, culture and cuisine\, while seamlessly blending in with their adopted Appalachian ways. They were the perfect balance of curry and cornbread.\nOn May 9th at 5:00\, Sheila will visit the Pike County Public Library (Lee Avenue) to read her story\, and her daughter will lead a class in cooking Chana Masala (Chickpea Curry). Each family will make their own curry to try – the class is designed for children to help! All families in attendance will also receive a free copy of “The Magic Table” to take home.\nIn order to guarantee enough supplies\, please register at http://informationplace.org/events/284 before April 28.\nThe Chickpea Curry is a nut-free\, dairy-free recipe. Use of a knife and hot plate is necessary\, and adult supervision of children is required at all times.
