SUMMARY:UPIKE to Host Annual Basketball Blast-Off
DESCRIPTION:UPIKE Athletics\, in partnership with What’s Up Wednesday\, is excited to announce this season’s installment of UPIKE’s annual Basketball Blast-Off. The storied tradition continues this Wednesday\, October 19th in the UPIKE Gym. \nStudents\, fans\, and community members are encouraged to attend the event which will feature various athletic programs and student groups. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the 2022-23 UPIKE Cheerleading and Dance teams\, who will also\nperform their first live routine of the season. Following performances from UPIKE’s Improv group\, the 2022-23 men’s and women’s basketball teams and coaching staffs will be introduced. \n“We are excited to host Basketball Blastoff and give our students and members of the community a fun night full of basketball\,” said men’s basketball head coach Tigh Compton. “It’s always great to see our players being introduced to the community for the first time and have the opportunity to represent our university in front of a crowd. Blastoff is always a reminder that the season is right around the corner!” \nSeveral games have been planned\, hosted by UPIKE student Kam Hattaway including Musical Basketball\, Dizzy Bat\, and the fan-favorite KnockOut event. \nFollowing introductions\, both basketball teams will treat attendees to an intersquad scrimmage. \nBurnin White will serve as the event’s public address announcer and the event will be live streamed via the UPIKE Sports Network. Welcome activities and food service will begin at 6:30 PM\, with the event to begin at 7:00 PM. \nAny media members interested in photographing or covering the event should email alekmorgan@upike.edu.
