There is always something exciting happening in beautiful Pikeville, Kentucky. Pikeville is home to one of the state’s largest festivals, Hillbilly Days held each April, and Muscle on Main, held one weekend each month from May through October. The Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center boasts a 7000-seat arena, a ballroom, and meeting rooms. The facility hosts many events each year including concerts, circuses, and conventions. The facility is home to the Eastern Kentucky Drillers arena football team and the defending NAIA champion University of Pikeville men’s basketball team. During warmer months, Main Street Live! brings entertainment on an outdoor stage to Downtown Pikeville on Friday evenings.
The University of Pikeville also fields teams in baseball, softball, football, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s bowling, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, and women’s volleyball. UPike competes on the modern, well-maintained facilities at the Hambley Athletic Complex and Bob Amos Park Complex, which boasts many impressive offerings, including baseball, softball, and soccer fields, a walking / running track, basketball and tennis courts, picnic shelters, the Pikeville RV Park, Black Widow Paintball, the Randy Jones Memorial Park for special needs children, the Multi-Use Trail, and the Overlook which provides a spectacular view of Downtown Pikeville and the Cut-Through Project, one of the largest earth-moving projects ever undertaken.
Cut-Thru Adventures allows visitors to kayak, canoe, and tube down the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River or paddleboat in Pikeville Lake. Visitors can opt for the more leisurely Downtown Walking Tour or Historic Walking Tour, stop by the Big Sandy Heritage Center, or check out the works of talented local artists at the Pikeville/Pike County Artisan Alliance’s new Artisan Center. The Pikeville City Park features cast iron park benches, picnic tables, gazebo, and shelter for weddings, reunions, concerts, or an array of other events. The fully-equipped playground at the Pikeville City Park and the nearby Pikeville Mini Park offers safe places where children can play and be active. The nearby Garfield Community Center is available to the public for events such as birthday parties and wedding receptions.
