FIREWORKS are cancelled for Hillbilly Days. The Pikeville City Fire Department announces that the decision has been made to unfortunately cancel the Firework Display scheduled for this Thursday night. The decision is based on the areas extreme dry weather conditions. It is necessary to cancel the display due to the likelihood of creating additional forest fires that would be caused by the fireworks. We regret not being able to shoot however safety for our community and its residents always comes first. We look forward to our next fireworks show set for our July 4th celebration.

The Pikeville City Commission commends UPIKE for their announcement, driven by the leadership of Dr. Hurley, Dean Roberts & Dr. Snow, of the New Innovation Office that will soon locate in Pikeville. The City Commission is proud of the partnership between the University and City. The announcement was held at the UPike Coleman College of Business, previously Pikeville's City Hall. The City Commission was happy to grant the University a long term lease for the Academy Building in order to help establish the business college to make way for initiatives such as this which promotes education, business growth and jobs for our region.

The Pikeville City Commission applauds the work of Pikeville Mayor Frank Justice (right) and Pike County Judge Executive Wayne T. Rutherford (left) in establishing the new joint Pikeville/Pike County Museum Board of Directors. Last week the Mayor & Judge met and officially executed the bylaws and affirmed the appointments to the board. The city & county governments have worked hard together to create an expanded board whose first job will be to relocate the museum to a new and improved facility that will offer a much larger space for displays. The first meeting of the board will be held this Wednesday, April 23rd at noon. We thank the newly appointed board members for their wiliness to serve their community in this capacity.
City appointments; Jessica Forsyth, Rusty Justice & Reed Potter. County appointments; Charlene Hopkins, Randall Osborne & Larry Thacker. University of Pikeville appointment; Gary Justice. Pikeville City Tourism appointment; Andy Linton. Pike County Tourism appointment; Bob Scott.
